This complex, that provided a new manufacturing plant for BMW to build their 3 Series car, was given a central focus by the ‘Central Building’ that was being designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
The Central Building brought together control of the various manufacturing activities into a central ‘nerve’ centre, creating interactive departmental work spaces.
A physical manifestation of this breaking down of a traditional, cellularised manufacturing process is the car track that winds its way through the BMW Central Building as it takes cars from one production unit to another, an activity that is deliberately enhanced with feature illumination.
