The Ondaatjee Wing extension created a new heart for the National Portrait Gallery, a new series of public facilities that were intended to ‘open up’ the Gallery to the public.
These included a new Rooftop Restaurant, a new Lecture Theatre and new Permanent and Temporary Exhibition Spaces. Daylight performance was also predicted and manipulated, specifically within to the Balcony Gallery which incorporates a large ‘louvre’ wall.
The connection routes and circulation between the existing gallery facilities and the new Ondaatjee Wing also formed a key part of the lighting design input.
