A partly ruined medieval castle that dates back to the 11th century, an 18th/19th century prison, a Malmaison Hotel and new retail scheme, the Oxford Castle scheme incorporated an immense variety of use and activity.
All of this was set within a new public realm. Amongst the many interesting design interventions was the conversion of the Victorian prison into the Malmaisson hotel with guest rooms being configured out of a number of prison cells.
With the illumination of the original Motte & Bailey castle and the new public realm interventions, Oxford Castle provides a new focus for the centre of Oxford.
