The project name provides a clue to the nature of this project – a new contemporary residence located out of public view in the middle of the Kinightsbridge conservation area.

Despite its ‘landlocked’ situation, this property includes, as a main feature, an extensive living space that is split across the upper floor/mezzanine levels of the house. Also included in this location are dining, kitchen and study facilities. A primary feature of the living space is the new timber clad pitched roof which allows daylight into the building and is illuminated at night as a ‘feature reflector’.

The three double bedrooms are complete with en-suite bathroom on the lower floors, with daylight being introduced via a series of rooflights positioned above cuts and slots in the main floorplate. The main bedroom suite extends into the underground pavement vaults to add more space at this level. Lighting, in these locations, is tightly integrated to ensure that the spatial quality of each element is emphasised – a series of light, bright subterranean spaces is created.

This project was undertaken with the architects LTS working directly for the private client.
