Clerys Department Store

Clerys is an institution in Dublin, one the oldest retailers within the city dating back some 150 years.  This project involved the complete refurbishment of the store, updating it with a refreshed look which at the same time still attracting an existing, loyal customer base.

The project included a range of retail offers – clothing, household goods, food – as well as a number of food & beverage outlets.  A primary feature in the store is the rear grand staircase which is an important reference to the history of Clerys.

The lighting response was to use a platform of high quality LED projectors to ensure good product colour rendering and sharp modelling and shadowing around the display merchandise.  This was supported by an uplighting element that not only provided ambient light but also accentuated the period architecture of the store interior.

The budget on this refurbishment was relatively tight and so innovative design solutions were required across the project.  The feature ‘chandeliers’ are a good example of this type of approach with collections of simple glass rod fixtures combining to make create a contemporary crystal chandelier effect.

Close co-ordination was required with the on-site team in Dublin as the entire refurbishment was undertaken whilst whole areas of the store remained trading.  EQ2 Light worked alongside the project management company McCarthy & Associates on this project.
